As another great season of off-leash at Battery Park comes to a close, we want to thank all the Battery Conservancy staff for their support and hard work. Many thanks from all our four-legged friends, it was truly a great year!
This morning we had a very successful Downtown Dog NYC clean up at the Large Lawn in Battery Park! Loads of people and dogs came out to enjoy the beautiful morning and help clean up the park. We even filled up a few holes in the lawn. Here are some pics of the event (mostly post clean-up):
“Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) is a rare but serious viral disease spread by mosquitoes that can affect people and horses. EEE can also cause disease in captive birds such as the ring-necked pheasant, emu, ostriches, quail and ducks. EEE infection and disease can occasionally occur in other livestock, deer, dogs, other mammals, reptiles and amphibians.” More important info about EEE from ny.gov.
Be aware that your dog CAN get bit by mosquitoes and may contract EEE and other viruses and parasites, particularly heartworm. Standing water on the lawn or sidewalks are common breeding areas for mosquito larvae. See graphic:
